A Minimal Extension of Bayesian Decision Theory

چکیده

Savage denied that Bayesian decision theory applies in large worlds. This paper proposes a minimal extension of Bayesian decision theory to a large-world context that evaluates an event E by assigning it a number π(E) that reduces to an orthodox probability for a class of measurable events. The Hurwicz criterion evaluates π(E) as a weighted arithmetic mean of its upper and lower probabilities, which we derive from the measurable supersets and subsets of E. The ambiguity aversion reported in experiments on the Ellsberg paradox is then explained by assigning a larger weight to the lower probability of winning than to the upper probability. However, arguments are given here that would make anything but equal weights irrational when using the Hurwicz criterion. The paper continues by embedding the Hurwicz criterion in an extension of expected utility theory that we call expectant utility.

Evaluation of Rough Set Theory for Decision Making of rehabilitation Method for Concrete Pavement

In recent years a great number of advanced theoretical - empirical methods has been developed for design & modeling concrete pavements distress. But there is no reliable theoretical method to be use in evaluation of conerete pavements distresses and making a decision about repairing them. Only empirical methods is used for this reason. One of the most usual methods in evaluating concrete paveme...

belief function and the transferable belief model

Beliefs are the result of uncertainty. Sometimes uncertainty is because of a random process and sometimes the result of lack of information. In the past, the only solution in situations of uncertainty has been the probability theory. But the past few decades, various theories of other variables and systems are put forward for the systems with no adequate and accurate information. One of these a...

Bayesian decision theory with action-dependent probabilities and risk attitudes

This paper extends the work of Karni (Econ Theory 48:125–146, 2011) to allow for the possibility that decision makers’ effect-dependent risk attitudes are also affected by their actions. This extension is essential for modeling decision situations in which actions have a monetary dimension that creates interaction between actions and wealth.

A multi agent method for cell formation with uncertain situation, based on information theory

This paper assumes the cell formation problem as a distributed decision network. It proposes an approach based on application and extension of information theory concepts, in order to analyze informational complexity in an agent- based system, due to interdependence between agents. Based on this approach, new quantitative concepts and definitions are proposed in order to measure the amount of t...

Determinants of Farmers’ Participation in Horticulture-based Extension Programs in Iran: Application of the Theory of Planned Behavior

This paper aims to discover the determinants of farmers’ par-ticipation in horticulture-based Education programs in the Western Azerbaijan province, Iran. Using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the study also tries to make a comparison between participants and non-participants, who have achieved in this program. A sample of 231 farmers (137 participants and 94 non-participants) was selecte...
